So when do we celebrate Emancipation Day and Juneteenth?
Apparently, that depends — and depended — on where you were!
The State Historical Society of Missouri has created an interactive map showing where and when either or both of these events’ origins and history. A news release from SHSMO states that Aug. 4 celebrations of Emancipation Day date from the Civil War Era, while Juneteenth dates from the 1970s.
