Bicentennial Celebrations

BoCo200 — On Nov. 16, 2020, Boone County will dedicate a monument to mark the 200th anniversary of its founding, according to this Aug. 28, 2020 Columbia Missourian article.  A planned July 4th event had to be canceled due to the current pandemic. CoMo200 — On June 12, 2021, Columbia will hold its big Bicentennial event. It will include a parade, town hall meetings, speeches, band performances and food, centered at the Flat Branch Park and in other downtown locations as well, according to this September 2020 CoMo Magazine article. 

Columbia’s celebrations have already started, the piece notes with KBIA’s series You Don’t Say series. The series will “explore the Black experience of Columbia,” according to the article. You can listen to part You Don’t Say here.

Columbia Public Schools will be holding a poster contest and 13 winners’ work will be included in a 2021 bicentennial calendar.

The Flat Branch Park is getting a $3.2 million expansion which will include a bridge, art work and a performance space.
